Stress Relief for Busy Moms


This time of year can be so stressful for many people.  This is the point when many people realize that they don't have time to do all the things on their to do list -- and panic sets in.  You can see it when you go around town, if you are watching.  People walk faster, their answers are shorter and more curt, they stop smiling -- even the way people drive changes.  People speed from one stop light to the next only to slam the breaks for the light.  It seems like I always see more fender benders this time of year.  People are stressed.

It's time to get off the stress train.

One way to help relieve the holiday stress is to have a little rejuvenation at home.  An at home spa evening can help you go to bed relaxed, have a refreshing sleep and wake up more ready for the day.  Here are some ideas to help you do it:

1.  Give your shopping weary feet some pampering with a Foot-Soak:
       Fill a foot bath, or dish pan with warm (close to hot, but not too hot) water.   Dissolve 1/2 cup- 1 cup Epsom salts in the water and add some Essential Oils.  A really wonderful combo for tired feet is 8-10 drops Lavender Essential Oil and 1-2 drop Peppermint Essential Oil (Be careful not to add too much peppermint oil or you will be really uncomfortable.  Peppermint oil is really cooling and will feel like you used way too much muscle cream.)  Throw in some marbles -- yes, marbles.  These are great.  You can run your feet over them as your feet soak for a wonderful foot massage.

2.  Refresh dry winter skin with a Sea Salt Scrub:
     I once paid a lot of money to have this done at a spa.  Now I do this at home.  Mix about a cup of Sea Salt (if you don't have sea salt, you can use regular table salt) with about 1/2 cup olive oil (you can also use almond oil, which feels wonderful, or many other oils.)  You want a spreadable consistency something like pudding.  Add a few drops of Essential Oil for scent.  Lavender Essential Oil is very restful and calming, but many other oils will work.  Take your bowl to the shower.  Before you turn on the shower, rub the mixture into your skin in circles until you have exfoliated your body.  Rinse with warm water.  (Be careful not to slip.  The oils can make the shower floor pretty slick.)  This is a little strong for the face -- see #3 for a good facial scrub.

3.  Refresh your face with a wonderful Facial Sugar Scrub:
     This is simply the best facial scrub I have ever used.  And it's so easy.  Just mix about a tablespoon of sugar with 1/2-1 tablespoon Olive or Almond Oil.  Add a drop or two of Lavender or other skin appropriate Essential Oil.  Rub on your face gently in circles for about 3 minutes.  Rinse with warm water and dry.  Enjoy how incredible your skin feels.  You can learn more about this scrub here.

4.  Have a Detoxing Bath:
     I'm not sure where I saw this recipe, but it didn't originate with me.  If you know, post a comment!  Use this recipe to turn your bath into a detox.  Add the following to your bath water:

2 cups Epsom Salt
1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 cup Bentonite Clay
Essential Oils (Some good detoxing oils are Lavender, Geranium, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang and Blue Tansy)

Soak in the bath for 20-40 minutes.  Drink a full glass of water and go to bed immediately.  (You will be ready for sleeping when you are done, and it will continue to do its work through the night.)

If you don't have the ingredients for this, you can just add about 2 cups of Epsom Salts and some Essential Oils to your bath.  It won't be quite as strong, but will still have detoxing benefits.

There.  Now you will be ready to finish out the holidays with less stress.
