The 8-8-8 Health Plan

34

I was listening to the news on the radio a couple days ago.  They were interviewing Alice Randall about an OpEd piece she had done on African American women and obesity.  She mentioned the 8-8-8 plan in passing, but it was so good, I wrote it down.  (I have not read anything she has written, so I can't comment on her as an author.)

It is a super simple plan for better health.  I had never heard it before -- maybe you have.  If you have, leave me a comment, and let me know where you heard about it.  I am looking for the original source.  Maybe Alice Randall is the original source.  I don't know.

Anyway, back to the 8-8-8 Plan.  It is so simple, you can say it with your eyes shut.  Okay, smartie.  I know you can say anything with your eyes shut.  Get ready, here it is:

The 8-8-8 Plan
Walk 8 miles each week
Drink 8 glasses of water each day
Get 8 hours of sleep each night

Isn't that simple?  But if you are starting from the couch-potato-pop-drinking-stay-up-half-the-night status, this is just great.  Anyone can remember this, and it is a fantastic starting place.

By walking a couple miles four times a week, you have walked 8 miles.  If you are already fit, then you could run 8 miles each week.  If you already run 8 miles a day, I don't want to talk to you.  I am busy sulking right now.

You can measure out the 8 glasses into a pitcher in the fridge.  All you have to remember is to drain your pitcher each day.  (Not into the sink, silly.  Into your belly.)

Figure out what time you have to get up in the morning and count back eight hours.  Now you know what time you need to go to bed each night.

Easy Peasy

Angela
