Rest, Relax & Revive

We're back!
We spent 2 weeks in our favorite spot.
In our opinion, there is just no place on earth like the Padre Island National Seashore.

65 miles of pristine, remote, drivable beach.
Really remote.  No cell phone reception remote...

You will need 4 wheel drive and good sand tires to get there though, because it's really expensive to hire a tow truck out there...

And it's wise to take your own toilet along, because the sand dunes can get really hot in the sun...

So what do we do in the sand & surf wilderness?

There was fishing:

There were sand crabs to chase....

There was swimming, boogie boarding, beach combing, sand castles and of course, burying family members in sand...

When I say it's remote, I mean it.  It makes regular "no amenities" camping look down right civilized.  When we needed to feel human again, we would drive out to some showers and get cleaned up.  Then we would head in to Corpus Christi for all the things normal people do for tourism...

Like dolphin shows....

and the aquarium....

and museums...

 and the U.S.S. Lexington...

where my hubby found his next airplane...

We climbed around on replicas of the ships that brought Columbus to the Americas.  All three are in Corpus Christi...

We even got attacked by monster sharks...

 It was a great vacation.

Now we are home and digging out.  We brought home a lot of sand.  I keep expecting the Sand Dune Reclamation Committee to show up at our door demanding that we return the sand dunes we took out.  Sigh...  All the clean up aftermath was worth it, though...

I've got some tutorials coming up for you as soon as I can find the floor again...

Have a great day!

Angela

  1. Okay, I think the sand wasn't as bad as last year...

  2. You're right. We are learning. Now we know all kinds of tricks, like whisking the sides of the tent and the screens with a stiff brush BEFORE you sweep out the tent floor....

  3. So that you can build a sand castle with the four dustpans of sand you sweep out of the tent and shake out of the sleeping bags...

  4. Yep. It's a new extreme sport: "Sand Sculptures in Tents" -- it's very daring...
