Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!! I won't bore you with a list of all the things I am thankful for. The list is pretty extensive. Instead, how about a little window into Thanksgiving at our house?
We try to invite some people over each Thanksgiving, so we often celebrate a few days before. That way people aren't already busy and can come to our home. This year was no different. We invited several families over for dinner last night.
Here's a little peak into what we did:
We like to gather leaves for the kids write things we are thankful for. May-May has organized this the last few years. She gathered and pressed the leaves. She brought everyone together and had them tell her things for which they were thankful. After she had written their ideas on the leaves, we braided the leaves into raffia to make a swag. This is how it turned out:
We had 15 people, so I set two tables. Here's a quick look at Table One:
And Table Two:
And yes, those are mason jars for glasses. It's simple, but it works for a Harvest type meal. At least at our house it does...
I didn't take a picture of the food, because I got busy serving it and forgot. Better luck next year. Anyway, I didn't serve Turkey since everyone was probably going to be eating it again in 2 days. I thought I would give them a break from the ultra traditional meal. Instead, this was the menu:
Raspberry-Glazed Cornish Hens
Sausage Apple Cranberry Stuffing
Roasted Root Vegetables
Green Beans with Bacon and Almonds
Spring Green Salad with Cranberries, Mandarin Oranges and Almonds
Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette
Fresh Sour Dough Crusty Bread Rolls
Freshly Ground Whole Wheat Bread Rolls
Rooibos Apricot Iced Tea
Lemonade
Water
Hot Tea
Coffee
And of course, the Pies:
I made:
Apple Cranberry Pie with Pastry Creme
Pumpkin Pie
German Chocolate Fudge Bites
Some of our friends brought Pecan Pie (Thank you!!!)
The Pies were served with Vanilla Ice Cream and Whipped Cream
So there you have it. Thanksgiving at our house. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving at someone else's house tomorrow. I am off to go make a salad, some really cool Wheat Stalk shaped sour dough loaves and Caramel Brownie Cheesecake.
I hope you all have a fantastic day!!
Angela
