11 Things You Never Needed to Know About Me

I suddenly realized that I have never made a real About Me page for my blog, and that maybe I should.  But then I sat and looked at a blank page for about an hour.  I couldn't think of a single interesting thing to say about myself.  So I scrapped that idea and decided to tell you some totally pointless things about myself.  Without further ado, here are 11 things you never needed to know about me:

1.  I am the mother of the CEO of AZCO Root Beer Company.  At least my 10 year-old son thinks so.  He got a Homemade Root Beer Kit for his birthday.  It is brewing on the kitchen counter as we speak. He named his new "company" AZCO -- for absolutely no coherent reason.  Do you think he will charge us for helping him drink it?

2.  My perfect summer day would involve sitting under a shade tree with a good book and a cup of tea.

3.  My perfect winter day would involve sitting by the fire with a good book and a cup of tea.

4.  I almost never have a perfect day.

5.  I don't sleep enough and that makes me do weird things.

6.  Like writing this About Page.

7.  I don't actually like to cook most of the time.  I realized early in marriage that I was going to spend a lot of my life cooking, so I had better learn to do it well.  I began to study it like a science.  Now I can whip out a mean meal for a crowd without breaking a sweat, all while pretending I'm doing something else.

8.  On the rare occasion that I am alone for a day, I tend to nearly starve.  I won't cook for myself and since we don't keep convenience foods in the house, I go hungry.

9.  Once upon a time, I used to paint (pictures, not houses).

10.  In my secret dream life, I want to own chickens and a dairy cow.  Except that I don't actually want to clean the coop or milk the cow.

11.  I also want an organic farm, but I don't want to weed it.  Or harvest it.  I just want to eat it -- the whole farm.  (I'm hungry.  See #8)

So now you know.  Is there anything else you want to know?  Maybe you can help me write a proper About Page.

Have a great day!

Angela

  1. So I have a question. If you don't cook for yourself when you're home alone...what do you do? And...why won't you cook for yourself? Just need a break?
Do you relax or are you busy catching up on extra projects you don't normally have time for?

OK, I am not just trying to be nosey. :) The reason I ask is because I can be sooo very productive and when I get allmost all in order...it seems like I almost lose steam and fall into a weird almost depression...but really it's not that...I dono how exactly to explain. I lose motivation. Do you think if I keep lists of things to do...you know...be organized with the other than daily things that need to be done, then it would be easier for me to plow on and keep the momentum? Or stay motivated. I still wana know what you do in your minus family days??? Whats that even like? Haha ;)

  2. Hi Dawn. Let's see...First of all, I VERY rarely get a day to myself -- Maybe once or twice a year, so I'm not in any risk of starving for real. When I get a day alone, it's sort of like a priceless gift and I cherish it. I don't want to do anything I don't like, and as I said in the post, I really am not that crazy about cooking even though I do it constantly and am told I do it well. On my rare days off, I take a break from all the mundane chores. There is so much that I do because it needs to be done. My days off are special. I turn my attention to other things. When I have a day alone, I try to make it very restful and therapeutic. I will make some tea (I always have enough energy to make a pot of tea) and unhurriedly go through my special day. Sometimes I will do projects that I have wanted to do but keep getting bumped down the to do list -- but I try to make sure they aren't stressful or mundane ones. Sometimes I will give myself a pedicure. I usually play some nice instrumental music on Pandora. Sometimes I will take a walk. Mostly, I just try to regroup and do things that rejuvenate me. It can be stressful and exhausting to juggle ministry and family and homeschool. These are my days to rest.

As far as you losing motivation goes, do you think maybe you are just tired? When you have little ones (or big ones) and your plate is full of responsibilities, exhaustion just sort of goes with the territory. After expending a lot of energy being productive, that exhaustion catches up with you. It is okay to admit you are tired. It is okay to need a nap. What we are trying to do here is achieve balance. There needs to be times of hard work, but also times of rest to balance that hard work out.

Yes, I think lists help us get things done. List keep us grounded instead of letting us spin in circles. I keep multiple lists. I have my daily "to do" list, but I also keep a project list with all those bigger things that need to be done, but don't necessarily have to be done today. For instance, if I don't scour the laundry room today, my family won't go hungry and life will go on. That goes on my project list. When I think I will have some extra time (Ha!), I move that to my daily list. Some times it still doesn't happen that day, but eventually it will. For the record, I have a quilt project that has been on my project list for over 3 years. I will eventually get it done, but other things keep crowding it out. I am okay with that (sort of).

Did all that make sense? Or is it clear as mud?

    1. Hey so quick apology for asking questions on your abou you page. Realized that was kinda lame. But, I do think you're right about being tired. Maybe just simply beingvmore balanced would help.

Anyway, I can totaly relate to not being able to come up with lots of things about yourself. As moms which I happen to think is the best job ever...I tend to get more thrill and enjoyment from simple things I experience with them.

The thought of having to write an about page about myself....uh...yeah no thank you. So, I think you did good. :)

  3. Dawn, I practically begged you to ask questions on my about page! You were absolutely NOT lame!! I thrive on comments. I see the numbers, so I know you guys are reading, but without comments, I don't know what you guys are thinking and I don't know if I'm making sense to you. Comments help make Gallimaufry Grove more of a conversation and community and less of a monologue.

Eventually I will have to buckle down and come up with a proper About Page because a lot of my readers don't know me in real life. It would help us connect. But I never realized how difficult it would actually be. Sigh... Thank you for the encouragement!!

  4. Dear Angela,
I just read this post about you and you will not believe how alike we are! I also do not like cooking, but I love food and being a mum of three I had to perfect it. I look for easy recipes too. I loved the idea of to do lists that you framed. I'll copy this :)

  5. Rula, it is amazing how we can find kindred spirits in countries so far from one another. Thank you, Internet! I'm so glad you are finding things here that are useful to you. I hope I am able to post lots more goodies for you in the future. Have a great day!
